Guru S.O.S.
This breakfast staple has been around for generations. It’s a hot, filling, and satisfying meal. Traditionally it is made with ground or chipped beef but almost any protein would be great. Think about left over grilled steak (if there is such a thing), pulled pork, shrimp, or sliced chicken breasts.
Sliced white bread is normally the “shingle” of choice, but French bread, sourdough, bagels, and biscuits are all great choices.
Traditional Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons Butter (unsalted)
- 2 tablespoons Olive oil (classico, or vegetable oil)
- 1 lb Ground beef
- ½ cup Onions (yellow, chopped)
- 1 tablespoon Garlic (chopped)
- 3 tablespoons Flour
- 1½ cups Whole milk
- Salt, Fresh Ground Black Pepper, or Louisiana Love Seasoning Blend to taste
- 6 slices Evangeline Maid white bread
Method:
Place butter and oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat.
Add ground beef and cook until browned.
Once butter is melted, add onions and cook until clear.
Add garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes.
Whisk in flour making sure to fully incorporate.
Add milk and bring to boil while stirring, reduce to simmer and cook for 4-5 minutes stirring occasionally.
Season to taste.
Toast bread on one side, serve sauce over bread.
